[WATCH] HIDE // Laff Track

"Laff Track" from HIDE's new album, 'Interior Terror.' Order here: https://smarturl.it/hide-interior-terror

Laughter strengthens your immune system, boosts mood, diminishes pain, and protects you from the damaging effects of stress. Nothing works faster or more dependably to bring your mind and body back into balance than a good laugh. Humor lightens your burdens, inspires hope, connects you to others, and keeps you grounded, focused, and alert. It also helps you release anger and forgive sooner. With so much power to heal and renew, the ability to laugh easily and frequently is a tremendous resource for surmounting problems, enhancing your relationships, and supporting both physical and emotional health. Best of all, this priceless medicine is fun, free, and easy to use. As children, we used to laugh hundreds of times a day, but as adults, life tends to be more serious and laughter more infrequent. But by seeking out more opportunities for humor and laughter, you can improve your emotional health, strengthen your relationships, find greater happiness—and even add years to your life.

[LISTEN] HIDE | HELL IS HERE

HIDE's second full length album Hell is Here on Dais is set for release August 23rd and sees the band's evolution pushed even further. The tone is sick and heavy. Using their previously established blueprint of complex drum programming, stomach churning sub bass and aggressive expressive vocals, Gabel and Sher poke and prod at the perception of musical context, and remind the listener that feelings of anxiety, pain, and discomfort are equally as important as those of resolution. Perhaps the strongest tool utilised here is the material’s dichotomy between the abrasive and the sterile. Beneath the crushing noisy exterior, sparks the familiar human voice. Divorced from their caustic counterparts Gabel’s vocals play a decisive role in cementing narrative for the material’s uncompromising assault on the senses.

Chainsaw is the opening track on Chicago electronic duo HIDE's second album "Hell Is Here", slated for release on Dais Records 8/24/19. The lyrics to Chainsaw aren't written by the band, rather, they are a slew of verbal assaults they have received repeatedly on the street, often while in the company of a child. HIDE // "Wildfire"

[The first single off our debut album is “Wildfire”. We made this video with a power trio of women photographers/filmmakers who we have worked with in the past and were eager to do something more involved with. “Wildfire” is about the earth rejecting its inhabitants. The album overall is about autonomy, identity, and power dynamics.]

HEATHER GABEL: HYBRID

The Carlton Arms’ Artbreak gallery is pleased to announce HYBRID, a solo show of new works by multidisciplinary artist Heather Gabel. The two part show features Gabel’s collage works alongside an ephemeral installation in a separate space.

HYBRID: the offspring of two plants or animals of different species or varieties; of mixed character; composed of mixed parts.
HYBRID is a new body of work created by Heather Gabel that addresses the processes of assimilation vs the act of appropriation. Through this minimally assembled collection of collages, both a natural desire to move towards a feral world and a more sinister motive rooted in control and objectification present themselves. How we see ourselves and our place in the natural world and how we are perceived and belittled in a capitalist society create conflict in attaining the ultimate goal: personal autonomy.
Heather Gabel (b. 1977) is a multidisciplinary visual artist and singer in the band HIDE. Gabel studied photography at the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit and holds a BFA from Columbia College Chicago. She has been exhibiting both internationally and across the United States for nearly 12 years in galleries and alternative venues, including several public art installations.

HYBRID by Heather Gabel
May 27 – June 3, 2017, open daily, noon – 6pm or by appointment.

Opening reception: May 27, 6pm-9pm
Artbreak Gallery @ Carlton Arms Hotel
160 East 25th Street, corner 3rd Ave, 2nd floor, New York, NY 10010

SEASON OF THE WITCH | SPRING/BREAK NYC DEBUT

Sarah Potter is pleased to present “Season of the Witch,” a group exhibition of new work at SPRING/BREAK Art Show during Armory Arts Week in New York City. The sixth edition of SPRING/BREAK Art Show will take place in the former corporate offices located at 4 Times Square with Ms. Potter’s curatorial project in room #32 on the 23rd floor of the building. The fair will run from Wednesday, March 1 to Monday, March 6 with a preview and Vernissage on Tuesday, February 28. This exhibition will mark the first in a series of events Ms. Potter has planned for 2017 which she has deemed as the “Season of the Witch.”

“Season of the Witch” reflects on the ways artists engage in ritual to reveal their deeply personal beliefs and spirituality through the creation of their artwork. The potent archetype of “the witch” is utilized here to represent a creator whose power comes from within. Like modern day shamans, artists are the ultimate magicians who are able to turn the intangible (their inner thoughts and inspirations) into the tangible (their artwork); the immaterial magically materializes. Working intuitively while referencing the powerful language of symbols, all of the artists in this exhibition turn art making into a modern day magical practice.

Six artists will be featured in the show: Evie Falci, Lala Abaddon, Heather Gabel, Astral Eyes, Hilary White, and Jesse Bransford. Working in a vibrant color palette and a variety of materials, Hilary White’s sculptural wall pieces act as portals to another realm of consciousness. Lala Abaddon’s woven photographs straddle the digital and analog realms revealing a pixelated dreamscape of her deeply personal inner world. Evie Falci transforms the mundane materials of denim, pleather, rhinestones, and metal studs into the divine by creating intricate mandalas referencing sacred geometry and ancient symbology. Utilizing the medium of collage, both Astral Eyes and Heather Gabel create powerful visual alchemy from collected imagery to reveal the surreal in their work. Jesse Bransford explores the relationship between art and magic through his practice and will charge the space with intention through the creation of a site-specific installation in the room which will remain on view for the duration of the exhibition.
