Thee Temple ov Psychick Youth has been convened in order to act as a catalyst and focus for the Individual development off all those who wish to reach inwards and strike out. Maybe you are already one of these, already feeling different, dissatisfied, separate from the mass around you, instinctive and alert? You are already one of us. The fact that you have this message is a start in itself.

Conceived in the aftermath of the punk and industrial countercultures, Thee Temple ov Psychick Youth (TOPY) was an "anti-cult" that drew on the tenets of provocation, transgression, and the DIY ethos to form an internationally reaching network bound together by an esoteric sensibility. 

With experimental pop group Psychic TV serving as the public's access to Temple doctrine (shattering a Guinness World Record for musical output in the process), the decade long spiritual, intellectual, and sexual revolution that TOPY would instigate, for tens of thousands of members worldwide, represented an unprecedented model for radical communion. 

TOPY strove to transcend the normative constructs of culture, sexuality, order, and reason, examine and undermine systems of power, and reach ecstatic states of being. In doing so its members often hurdled past the outer limits of propriety, arousing the moral wrath of “Satanic Panic” era British authorities and causing the subsequent Scotland Yard raid and political exile of the group’s central figurehead, artist and provocateur Genesis P-Orridge.

A MESSAGE FROM THE TEMPLE is the first authorized documentary about Thee Temple Of Psychick Youth (years 1981-1991), tracing its influences and inception to its dramatic downfall and enduring legacy. 

Told with unprecedented access through the eyes of its members, collaborators, and persecutors via contemporary interviews, personal archives, and historical accounts from the mainstream media, A MESSAGE FROM THE TEMPLE will provide an intimate portrait of the artists, occultists, and rock stars that surrounded Thee Temple Ov Psychick Youth.

It is our belief as filmmakers that stories such as this must be told if human history is to survive, progress, or have any meaning whatsoever.

"The freedom I pleaded for twenty years ago was freedom to be a person, with dignity, integrity, nobility, passion, pride that constitute personhood. Freedom to run, shout, talk loudly and sit with your knees apart. Freedom to know and love the earth and all that swims, lies, and crawls upon it...most of the women in the world are still afraid, still hungry, still mute and loaded by religion with all kinds of fetters, masked, muzzled, mutilated and beaten."

Growing up in a small country town in the Murray region, the air was thick and fraught with testosterone and misogyny as tenderly as oxygen itself. A strange girl who doesn't fit in with societies idea of what she should be and what those boys want her to be.. a ripening feminist in my teens I grasped at every book of feminist literature I could. I was struggling to understand my own feelings of inadequacy as a both a female among men and a female among females. I remember seeing a segment on a current affair program on TV talking about Germaine Greer. She was confident, fierce, funny, bold and sassy and she wasn't  some celebrity or star. 

Germaine was a writer, a brown haired Australian firecracker. I wanted that. I wanted her fire, her confidence but most of all I wanted to be whatever I wanted to be and Germaine represented exactly that. The Female Eunuch aroused a sense of camaraderie in me. In my own weird way I felt like a Eunuch, not necessarily in the exact sense Germaine meant it in her works but nonetheless it was a feeling that resonated with me for much of my life.

Later, in my early University years I came across much more feminist thought and writers alike. But I would always have a soft spot for Germaine. She was Aussie and she looked like a woman I might know, a woman I'd like to be. She was the rebel, she was the intellectual. The exact marrying of both was what I longed to be. The individual, unique brash feminine rebellion with brains.  Whilst working on my thesis in my final years at University, Germaine's 'The Whole Woman' was published. A book that seemingly talked directly to a new generation, one that I could identify with more personally.  This book only further solidified my interest and incited me on my own literary rebellions. 

If you think you are emancipated, you might consider the idea of tasting your menstrual blood—if it makes you sick, you've a long way to go, baby.

Whether you agree with all or much or some of Germaine's writings the fact remains that she is and always will be an iconic figure in literature, culture and feminism. Germain signified the importance of women finding their voice, their bodies and their sex. This woman sat in debates with middle aged male media and political muppets and never failed to deliver confidence, wit and an unrelenting sense of strength and intelligence. I cannot say there is a writer today in Australia or elsewhere that quite compares. That is, if we can look further than the smoke and mirrors of Beyonce and Taylor Swift feminism frolicking in today's pop culture to something more. Their lackluster ethos and often less relatable imagery makes it hard to feel the fire in the belly kind of feminism Germaine once stirred up. Is it that authentic feminist role models don't exist or that they aren't present? Or is it that the stage being set hasn't changed that much at all and the firecrackers like Germaine are just waiting in the wings?

Shit Girls Say | Episode 2

Forget New Years Resolutions! Here's to everyday resolutions!

So every year once Christmas creeps around people start going into frenzies listing resolutions for the New Year which we ALL know they rarely follow through. So how about we break it down into something a little more manageable.

 

15 Everyday Resolutions!

1. Do at least 20 minutes of walking a day.

2. Try smiling at a complete stranger (Best not to pick the mentally unstable ones)

3. Always remember to pick your battles wisely.

4. Negativity begets negativity. Don't forget this.

5. Honesty is always the best policy.

6. Ask someone how they are today and mean it!

7. Reward yourself after a long day at work with a relaxing bath, a dinner with friends or a walk with your pet or hey, even that new dress!

8. No Internet or Computers after 11pm. (I'm still working on this guys, bear with me).

9. Do not spend outside your budget. Empty bank accounts and credit card debt are neither smart or attractive.

10. Eat something fresh once a day. Fruit & Vegetables are good for mind, body and soul.

11. Focus on the future not the past.

12. Be kind to yourself and those around you.

13. Compliment yourself on one thing today. "Damn, my hair looks good". Less insults, more compliments. And hey, it doesn't hurt to share those compliments around! It's amazing how one small thing can brighten someone's day.

14. Drink more water!

15. Always remember to put yourself in other people's shoes. Nothing is ever black & white and nothing is ever simple.
