Featured Tattoo Artist | Annita Maslov

Name: Annita Maslov
Age: 23
Location: Melbourne, Australia

What attracted you to tattooing?

While I was a freelance illustrator, a lot of the commissioned work I was getting was tattoo designs. I loved the process of talking to clients, hearing their story and translating their ideas onto paper. It’s a pretty rewarding experience, so I imagined it would be 10 times more rewarding to physically tattoo them too. I was right!

How did you get into the industry?

I had an interview with Dave (my current boss), showed him my folio, told him about my aspirations and started my apprenticeship the week after.
Was it hard to find an apprenticeship? No, I got pretty lucky.

How many years have you been tattooing?

1 and a half

What inspires you?

My perpetual drive to create art.

Who are your favourite tattoo artists?

Guy Le Tattooer, Alvaro Flores, Chaim Machlev and Dr Woo.

How would you describe your tattoo style?

Dark, intricate and a little gothic.

What have you learned in your years in the industry?

 A lot of patience.

If you weren't tattooing what would you be doing?

Probably pursuing a career in neuroscience while illustrating as a hobby.

What advice do you have to people considering careers in tattooing?

Be patient and learn how to compromise with clients without losing your artistic integrity. Also, learn how to tattoo all kinds of styles. It will be hugely beneficial!

What are some of the best things you have experienced as a result of your career?

Definitely meeting all different kinds of amazing people. No one is ever boring. Everyone has a story.
