Featured Tattoo Artist | Johnny Gloom

Name: Johnny
Age: 23
Location: Paris

What attracted you to tattooing?

All the good parts of tattooing attracted me. It's a very a powerfull thing.

How did you get into the industry?

I was studying communication and advertising in Paris but it was the wrong direction for me. I think in this world you sell your creativity for wrong reasons and  manipulate people to sell them shit and it's just not me.

But I have no regrets, I learnt a lot of things about people and us as a society, and I now have now a very good visual culture.

One day I fell in love with tattoos... making people happy, proximity with them, telling their stories. You get over yourself and work hard for something good, so I find myself here in the tattoo industry.

Was it hard to find an apprenticeship?

Yes and No.  I don't have a traditional apprenticeship. Just some tattooers that believe in me and have taught me and guided me. I am infinitely grateful to them. I think I will be learning my whole life.

How long have you been tattooing?

1 year

What inspires you?

I have a " dark universe ". Absolutely everything inspires me... a girl in the street, a movie, a photo, a music, a sentence, a word, a door, people around me…

But mostly emotions. I'm very sensitive to my own emotions. We are all humans and we have common emotions, if it's about me, someone else too. Love, Hate, Violence, Passion… Love is the burden of humanity, everyone recognizes it.
And graphically, I love simple things.

Who are your favourite tattoo artists?

The list is so loooong.

Guy le tatooer, Rafel Delalande, Joe Ellis, Sway , Alexander Grimm, Duncan X, Jean Philippe Burton, Kane Trubenbacher… And too many. There are a lot of very good tattooers.

How would you describe your tattoo style?

I can't just yet in my career but I hope to continue to evolve.

What have you learned from the industry?

I don't think I know enough yet myself to pass advice on.

If you weren't tattooing what would you be doing?

Gangster : Find a guy and rob banks like Bonnie and Clyde.
Or maybe Criminal or Serial Killer if I wasn't find love.
You know, something cool, because I know nothing to do .

What advice do you have to people considering careers in tattooing?

I don't know if Im qualified to give advice to someone. I'm nothing yet. Seek out experienced tattooers to guide you.

What are some of the best things you have experienced as a result of your career?

Getting to create tattoos and be very close to tattooers I admire. Sometimes its stressful  but I'm very grateful for my beginnings.

Where do you currently tattoo?

Paris but i hope travel a lot.

Guest tattooing currently at Lyon 24-27 Juin
