Kristin Kontrol's  DEBUT "X-Communicate" album releases 5/27/16

It's a solo bedroom disco ode to the 80s and all dressed up in a goth pop party dress... I was a huge fan of the somber shoegazing "Dum Dum Girls",  Kristin's previous band and whilst Kristin Control has a clear departure from the earlier sound, her voice is still unmistakable. A few tracks into the new album I found myself reminiscing of that film "A night on the town" (or "Adventures in Babysitting" and singing into your hairbrush around your bedroom. It's the kind of album you play while getting ready to go out for the night or something you listen to whilst driving alone at night mascara running down your face in your prettiest pink party dress a la Andie Walsh. 

It is a refreshing sound from Kristin and I'm looking forward to the new evolution.

Heather Gabel | "WANDERING NOCTURNAL"

SP Projects is pleased to present “Wandering Nocturnal: A

Collection of Work by Heather Gabel” at The Convent in

Philadelphia. This exhibition marks Heather's first east coast

solo show.

Through her chosen medium of collage, Heather Gabel

creates work that is at once nostalgic and timeless, cleverly

contrasting classic imagery with clean, stark lines and cutting

irony. Using a combination of collected vintage and Xerox

papers, she creates powerful new visual juxtapositions that

confront ideas about gender and pose questions about

traditional femininity.

Heather Gabel is a visual artist living and working in

Chicago, with collage being at the core of her practice. She

studied photography at the Center for Creative Studies in

Detroit and holds a BFA from Columbia College Chicago.

She has been exhibiting both internationally and across the

United States for nearly 10 years in galleries and alternative

venues, including several public art installations with Johalla

Projects in Chicago and New York City. Recent projects

include a series of neon-based works addressing modern

death rituals in American society, a trilogy of video works, a

collaboration with the Chicago-based designer Hvnter

Gvtherer, programming the Palace Film Festival and

research for her first performance work.
