Words with Katie Gallagher
So what was originally meant to be an interview with fashion designer Katie Gallagher turned into a comical game of word for word via Facebook messages across two different time zones. Below is the stream of consciousness that ensued. Katie did answer a few more serious questions which you can find at the end of the article.

When did you first get involved in the fashion industry?
I launched my first line during New York Fashion Week directly out of school in Sept. 2009 (Spring/Summer 2010)
Where do you draw your influences for the label?
I like to try to keep within my own head as much as possible--if that is even possible--id like to believe that I can do it. If I can imagine it, I try to draw it two dimensionally, and then I try to recreate my drawings three-dimensionally...clothes!
Who are some of your favourite designers and labels?
My favorite designers are Rei Kawakubo (CDG) and Junya Watanabe
Is there any one designer you would love to collaborate with?
Rei Kawakubo, of course!
Have you had many celebrity clients and is there any one celebrity you would love to work with but haven't yet?
I have had some celebrity clients...I don't really like to have muses or people I become obsessed with from the outside, so I don't have anyone in mind, no.
What are your favourite materials and embellishments to work with?
My favorite material to work with is definitely leather, it's got to be just right though, never too stiff, never too supple...
When you are not designing what can we find you doing?
I'm working a lot. My line absorbs my whole life. I run and do pilates. I like some of my friends :)
What has been your biggest personal accomplishment with KATIE GALLAGHER, the label?
Just having it! I'm so thankful to be doing what I do as my job...however, its more grueling than you can probably imagine. I do it all on my own!
What can we expect from KATIE GALLAGHER in the future?
SS13 and a little diffusion line so that a broader range of people can enjoy my designs!
